God Cares About the Heart

1 Samuel 16:1-13

We look at outward things, but God looks at the heart. Looks can be deceiving, but our hearts reveal who we really are. We may be able to fool people for a while, but eventually we will show our true colors. But God is never fooled. He knows our thoughts, feelings, and even our intentions. So, we need to focus on our hearts more than anything else. If our hearts look good, then we will also be attractive on the outside.

God rejected Saul as king and told Samuel to anoint one of Jesse's sons to be his replacement. The one Samuel thought looked good was not the one God chose and He explained that we may look at the outward appearance of a person, but He looks at the heart.

First we go through the story of God's selection, then we read a lot of verses about how God knows and cares about our hearts more than anything else and what's on the inside is what should matter to us too. We need to be focusing on actually being good people instead of just appearing to be.
